Overview
I dearly love the process of making writing of any length—articles, books, even social media posts—as polished, engaging, and crystal-clear to its intended audience as it can be. I have great sensitivity to the work an author has taken on a manuscript before it gets to me. And I take pride in my ability to gauge and accomplish what any given client is looking for, from a light copyedit to a deep dive into structure, tone, and content.
My career has included senior editorial positions at some of the biggest companies in the field—Condé Nast, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Hearst, Meredith, the late and lamented Time Inc. I've also done a great deal of freelance work over the years on both fiction and nonfiction books, with a particular focus on arts and entertainment, but also covering academic works, memoirs, fantasy and science fiction genre novels, and many more.
I treasure the chance to collaborate with writers and editors to make their work the absolute best it can be—and on their terms, not just pre-existing ones of my own. I consider my edits (beyond marking typos and such) suggestions, and while I will always point out where rules are being stretched or broken, I don't feel my role is to be the grammar police. I'm more like the grammar social worker, ensuring that deviations from the usual path are being taken with forethought and intent.
I'm always game for a new challenge, and would love to discuss your work further with you if you're interested. Thanks for reading!
