Michael Moccio

Michael Moccio – Editor

Graphic novel and comic editor with 5+ years experience working for First Second, BOOM! Studios, Tapas, and more.

Overview

I'm a freelance comic book editor whose credits include international best-seller R.L. Stine's graphic novel series Just Beyond, Emmy Award-winning Pat McHale's (Over the Garden Wall) graphic novel Bags (or a Story Thereof). I've worked on a range of titles from YA to MG to adult and everything in between!

I'm passionate about helping creators hone their storylines while keeping in mind elements the book market and comic market love to see! I enjoy working with creators on anything queer, fantasy, or romance and can especially help prose writers learn the ins-and-outs of comic scripting.

I generally like to go through your materials, then provide an email outlining comments, questions, and feedback, before hopping on a call to brainstorm solutions and game plan next steps.

TESTIMONIALS:

"Working with Mike on Bags (Or a Story Thereof) and the Over the Garden Wall comics was a wonderful experience. He has a keen eye for details, good judgement, and was easy to communicate with through the process. I'm very proud of the comics we made together."

--Patrick McHale

(Creator, Emmy Award-winning Over the Garden Wall)

"Working with Michael on Steven Universe at BOOM! Studios was a pleasure and a delight. He made my work so much stronger with his consistently kind, thoughtful feedback--I would be thrilled at any opportunity to work with him again in the future."

--Sarah Gailey

(Hugo Award-winner, River of Teeth, Steven Universe)

"As someone who’s worked with him on licensed properties as well as creator-owned originals, I cannot stress the value of having an editor like Mike M. on your team. His mind is on short term and long term challenges, and his eye is on the work as both discerning credit and everlasting fan. While I may be known for writing and drawing comics, I’ve also done Mike’s believe me when I say: you wanna work with this guy."

--Sina Grace (GLAAD Award-nominated writer, Ghosted in L.A., Go Go Power Rangers)

Mike's help has been amazing. I feel so much more prepared to start querying now, and have learned so much. His feedback was thorough, and specific, and he really knows his stuff. He was conscientious about following up with links to information he mentioned in our discussions, which I really appreciate. I highly recommend working with him!
