Meagan Church – Editor

Helping stuck writers get unstuck through editing and story development. Genres: historical fiction, literary fiction, coming-of-age.

Overview

Wondering if:

• your characters are fully developed?

• there's a plot hole needing filled?

• your story is engaging?

• you're ready to query agents?

• or to get started?

I specialize in helping stuck authors get unstuck. I look through the lens of a reader, finding ways to best engage your target audience. I provide feedback, guidance, and resources through editorial assessments and developmental edits to help you strengthen your story. Genres include general, women's, historical, coming-of-age and literary fiction, with a bit of non-fiction.

Each book is unique. I work to understand your vision, voice, audience, and preferred style. Knowing this is a collaborative process, each project starts with a phone call, so I can best understand your goals. And you always have an opportunity for a follow-up call or messages to ask me questions for greater clarity.

With a B.A. in English from Indiana University, I built a career as a storyteller and freelance writer for brands, blogs, and organizations, and as publisher and editor of a literary journal. I am the best-selling author of two historical fiction novels from Sourcebooks. This career path has taught me the importance of storytelling and has fueled a passion in me to help others tell better stories.

Meagan is a remarkable writer, editor, and coach. I cannot say enough. It always helps to have a published author in your corner who knows the ins and outs of compelling writing. Here patience, creativity, attentiveness, and enthusiasm are unapparelled. I cannot say enough about working with Meagan.

I chose well. Meagan provided me with just the feedback I needed to move forward pivoting from a first-time author memoir to a novel. The references she provided me were spot on. I have just finished digesting them and am getting to a re-write of my book. The only thing missing, however, is the ability to check in just one more time after receiving the feedback. This would be useful for c...

I appreciated working with Meagan. For me, it's always a bit awkward just uploading work that you've poured time and energy into and allowing someone to have at it. The initial phone call made me a bit more comfortable it was professional and yet felt personable as well. She offered comments on my work that were detailed and she offered questions that would provoke thought as a way to take mys...

I have a large manuscript (novel) that was praised by a previous editor but got no traction with agents, so I asked Meagan to help me with some "big picture" issues like length, overall structure, and character development. She provided me with what I need most: actionable feedback, with direction on where to focus my rewrite. And she did so at a very reasonable cost, and produced her report wi...

Meagan delivered on everything she promised. Her notes were thorough as well as insightful. I have no doubt that she has given me what I need to improve the quality of my work. The editorial letter was detailed and her notes throughout the manuscript highlighted potential issues. I also appreciated her recommendations for professional reading. I would not hesitate to use Meagan again.
