Meagan Church – Editor

Helping stuck writers get unstuck through editing and story coaching. Genres: historical fiction, literary fiction, coming-of-age.

Overview

Wondering if:

• your characters are fully developed?

• there's a plot hole needing filled?

• your story is engaging?

• you're ready to query agents?

• your book is as good as your mother tells you it is?

I specialize in story coaching to help stuck authors get unstuck. Editing through the lens of a reader, I look for ways to best engage your target audience. I provide feedback, guidance, and resources through editorial assessments to help you strengthen your story. Genres include general, women's, historical, coming-of-age and literary fiction, with a bit of non-fiction.

Each book is unique. I work to understand your vision, voice, audience, and preferred style. Knowing this is a collaborative process, each project starts with a phone call, so I can best understand your goals. And you always have an opportunity for a follow-up call or messages to ask me questions for greater clarity.

With a B.A. in English from Indiana University, I built a career as a storyteller and freelance writer for brands, blogs, and organizations, and as publisher and editor of a literary journal. I am the author of two historical fiction novels from Sourcebooks. This career path has taught me the importance of storytelling and has fueled a passion in me to help others tell better stories.

Meagan was a wealth of information. We laughed about how Reedsy needs a 'coaching' option because that was exactly what I needed, was very stuck. She provided great insight, emailed notes after our session and a few recommendations to navigate this conundrum. There was no judgment, just extremely supportive and positive. I look forward to using her again!

Working with Meghan has been such a pleasure. The feedback she has provided on my first novel has been helpful and polite. I am a new author and must admit I was nervous about getting critiqued, as I felt it would deter my ambitions, but she provided me with a new outlook and to rethink areas that are going to be important in moving forward with my work. I look forward to continuing this jour...
