Meagan Church

Meagan Church – Editor

Best-selling author helps emerging writers find their voices. Genres: historical fiction, literary fiction, coming-of-age.

Overview

As a best-selling author, editor, and adjunct faculty for an MFA program, I help foster writers who want to deepen their understanding of the craft. My passion lies not only in crafting emotionally-resonant narratives, but also in equipping authors with the tools to develop their own voices.

With over twenty years of experience in storytelling across multiple mediums, I look through the lens of a reader to find ways to best engage your target audience. I provide feedback, guidance, and resources through editorial assessments and developmental edits to help you strengthen your story. Genres include general, women's, historical, coming-of-age and literary fiction.

Tips before submitting:

• Self-edit your manuscript multiple times. Completing a first draft is a great accomplishment, but hiring an editor is an investment. Take the manuscript as far as you can to clear up common early-draft imperfections, so an editor can help with polish and shine.

• Write your own words. Tools exist that can now generate prose and dialogue on your behalf. To learn the craft of storytelling means putting in the time, effort, blood, sweat, and tears to take a story from concept to completed manuscript. Shortcuts may seem like they save time, but they do not nurture understanding.

Work experience

Self-employed

Aug, 2005 — Present
Throughout my career, I have blended literary and commercial storytelling to create immersive, empathy-driven fiction, most recently in The Girls We Sent Away, a Southern Indie Bestseller and North Carolina Reads selection. Beyond my own writing, I have worked extensively as an editor and book coach, helping writers refine their craft through developmental editing and guided mentorship. Additionally, I lead writing workshops, including Creating Compelling Characters: The Art of Empathy in Storytelling, where I use public speaking, interactive instruction, and research-based techniques to teach character development. My experience in both publishing and teaching has strengthened my ability to mentor writers at all stages of their journeys.

Drexel University

Mar, 2025 — Present
As an adjunct faculty member, I work one-on-one with students in Drexel University's Low-Residency MFA Creative Writing Program to help develop their storytelling skills and strengthen their narrative voices.
