Meghan McCullough

Meghan McCullough – Editor

I'm a Latinx children's book editor specializing in MG and YA novels, with experience at HarperCollins, Scholastic, Levine Querido, and PRH.

Overview

"Meghan is one of the best editors I’ve had the privilege of working with. Not only does she provide intelligent, thoughtful, and thorough feedback, she knows how to cut through all the noise that comes with writing a book to find the fix that takes a story from mundane to magical. Working with Meghan is working with a true professional who knows her stuff." - Meg Cannistra, author of HOW TO HEAL A GRYPHON and HOW TO SAVE A UNICORN

Hello, author! I'm a children's book editor based in NYC with over 8 years of experience in traditional book publishing. I have worked as an editor at Inkyard Press/HarperCollins, Levine Querido, and Scholastic. I specialize in Young Adult and Middle Grade fiction, across genres, but have a special love for contemporary realistic, magical realism, speculative, and grounded fantasy.

I offer editorial assessments, developmental editing, line editing, copyediting, and proofreading services. I meet each author and each project where they are. My goal as an editor is to get to the core of the story you want to tell to help make your project the absolute strongest version of itself. If you have a story to tell, get in touch - I would love to work with you!

“Working with Meghan was an absolute delight! She came to my latest project midway through, which can be challenging for both author and editor. Fortunately, her keen editorial insight and warm personality made her so easy to work with, and our visions aligned perfectly. Thanks to Meghan, my book was chosen for the YA Barnes and Noble book club, a career highlight! Any author would be lucky to work with Meghan!” – Mara Rutherford, author of A MULTITUDE OF DREAMS

"Meghan is an editor of impeccable insight and profound compassion. She has a way of looking at a manuscript and seeing right to the heart of both what the project is, and what it has the potential to become. My work would not have been possible without both her keen eye and her gentle encouragement. Any writer would be lucky to have her." - Emi Watanabe Cohen, author of THE LOST RYŪ

"Meghan is a superb editor. She asked all the right questions to get my book to tell the story it needed to tell. Her editorial comments were always thoughtful and respectful, and often fun. She has an admirable sense for both the big picture and the details, and for how they work together. Meghan is a joy to work with." – Alexandra Méndez, author of WHAT THE JAGUAR TOLD HER

“I had the pleasure to work with Meghan McCullough during her time at Inkyard Press. Her editorial feedback was meticulous and incredibly useful in shaping my novel into the best version of itself. Her keen eye for characterization and plot made her an excellent editor, and her enthusiasm for the craft further inspired and invigorated me as an author.” — Aden Polydoros, author of THE CITY BEAUTIFUL

Megan is a top-flight professional. She was quick, to the point, and lifted the editorial fog with her insights. Her text analysis and manuscript comments were in-depth, spot-on, and more comprehensive than any grad school course or writer’s conference I’ve taken – all within three weeks. She’ll help you set a solid foundation for your next project.
