MaryJo Rhodes

MaryJo Rhodes – Editor

Meticulous, responsive copy editor, specializing in nonfiction. Have worked for NYC trade publishers, academic presses, and indie authors.

Overview

I am a full-time copy editor, specializing in nonfiction in a variety of subject areas: biography and memoir, religion, self-help, history, current affairs and politics, law, science, and education.

I began my editorial career in book publishing as a project editor at G&H Soho, where I worked on books from trade, professional, and university presses, including John Wiley & Sons, Simon & Schuster, New York Times Books, and Cambridge University Press. I've also worked in house at Penguin Group (USA) and Oxford University Press. I'm currently an editorial freelancer for St. Martin's Press, the Froebe Group, Kaplan Publishing, and others. In addition, I've worked on many titles for independent authors and nonprofit organizations.

As a copy editor, I will work with you to fine-tune your manuscript, ensuring that your text is free of grammatical, spelling, and syntax errors. In addition, I will suggest edits to improve readability and narrative flow. I will also lightly fact check your text (verify dates, names, historical events, and so on). I work only in MS Word (not PDFs) and edit with Track Changes.

I look forward to working with you on your book project!
