Marta Dec

Marta Dec – Designer

Experienced book designer and illustrator, working with both fiction and non-fiction books across various genres.

Overview

Hi! My name is Marta and I'd love to collaborate with you on your book.

I started working as a book designer and illustrator in 2014, and today I can boast both skill and broad experience. I’ve worked in both self- and traditional publishing in multiple markets and across various genres – personally, I’m a voracious fantasy and non-fiction reader, but my portfolio includes also a lot of thrillers, children’s stories, and other novels. I have collaborated with authors and publishers from Scandinavia, US, UK, Germany, and Poland.

I’m entranced by good typography and stunning artwork – in my work, I aim to combine the two, and can both digitally paint a vibrant cover illustration and typeset the text with laser focus on even the smallest of details. I work with both traditional and digital publications.

I’m always on the lookout for intriguing opportunities, so…

…let’s talk about your book!

Work experience

Beans&Sparks Club

Jul, 2019 — Dec, 2019 (5 months)

Designing typography for children's books. I worked with Beans&Sparks on five books, making the type fit the mood of each story, playing with colours and shapes, and reflecting changes in volume, importance and style. Text was treated as part of the illustration, and so had to be fun, playful, and placed in creative and surprising ways.

SAGA Egmont

Jun, 2019 — Dec, 2020 (over 1 year)

Designing e-book covers for classic titles such as books by August Strindberg, Alexandre Dumas or Artur Moller. I worked on roughly 5 covers per week, creating them in accordance with SAGA's style guidelines.

Self-employed

Sep, 2014 — Present

Designing books from various genres, fiction and non-fiction, and collaborating with both individual authors and publishing companies. My experience encompasses both print and digital layouts, as well as book covers in various formats.
