Marshall Yarbrough

Marshall Yarbrough – Translator

Translator of German fiction, nonfiction, and children's literature—diligent, professional, and attuned to the nuance of language.

Overview

I have translated books in nearly every genre, from lyrical literary fiction to gripping narrative nonfiction, from thrillers to romance, plus the full range of children's literature, from picture book to middle-grade to YA. In my more than ten years of translating I've worked with renowned authors like Norman Ohler, Ulla Lenze, and Wolf Wondratschek, and been published by major publishers in the US and UK like Farrar, Straus, and Giroux, Penguin, HarperCollins, and New York Review Books Classics.

I work diligently and self-sufficiently. When it comes to rendering the nuances of literary German prose into English, preserving the beauty of the original without sacrificing clarity in the translation, I have the sensibility of an artist. When it comes to meeting deadlines, I'm a professional. Whether it's a complex literary work or more "prosaic" nonfiction or genre fiction, I am committed to respecting the original text and producing the best possible translation.
