In 2016 she began a career in freelance illustration, specializing in watercolor and trying to push the medium to its limits through constant experimentation. Since then Mariya has illustrated two award winning picture books, two books for private clients, and she has undertaken projects for Reeves International and other businesses. Her hummingbird illustration was selected for the Austin ArtBoards billboard contest, and her original work has been featured in fantasy and wildlife art collections.
She lives in Austin, Texas with her husband, and velcro Border Collie, Lucky.
In addition she has served as the local advisor for ICON9 The Illustration Conference, and is a proud member of Changeling Artist Collective, The Bird Whisperer Project and SCBWI.
In her previous work life, Mariya has served as a regulatory affairs coordinator for a medical device consulting company managing medical device and cosmetics registrations in Europe and Asia.
She received a Biology degree with emphasis on pre-medicine from Baylor University.
