Marieke Swerski

Marieke Swerski – Editor

I'm a professional book editor with experience in multiple disciplines, particularly medical/dental editing.

Overview

I've worked professionally as an editor since 2012, with experience editing short educational articles as well as full-length textbooks and clinical books for oral surgeons and dental professionals. Many of my projects have been translations or ESL authors, so I'm experienced with having a heavy hand in reworking the language to best get the message across. I've also done a great deal of developmental editing, including reorganizing and rearranging individual chapters as well as the book as a whole. I'm familiar with AMA style and comfortable with medical and dental terminology. In addition to text, I'm also very experienced with figure legends and tables, boxes, and charts to complement the text.
Aside from the necessary editorial skills, I am also an excellent communicator. I'm very responsive to emails, and I ask questions if I need more information for something I'm working on.
I also enjoy writing in my spare time, particularly romance novellas or novels, and though I have not edited in this genre professionally, I would be open to the opportunity. I like to balance my serious medical work with more lighthearted reading and am really up for anything.

Marieke made me look smart. I would have otherwise got a D+ for grammar and punctuation on this project. She's a real professional in her craft and certainly added a great deal of polish to my finished product. Would civilization even exist without copy editors?
