Overview

I’m a developmental editor with nearly 20 years of experience. I began my career at Penguin’s cutting-edge young adult and middle grade imprint, Razorbill. In addition to editing novels in a variety of genres, I developed plots and helped to create original concepts for series. During my time at Aladdin, an imprint of Simon and Schuster, I edited a variety of mass market middle grade books including the bestselling New Nancy Drew series, Hardy Boys Adventures, and Childhood of Famous Americans series.

Since 2015, I have been working as a freelance developmental editor specializing in young adult, middle grade, and picture books. As a developmental editor, I provide my clients with a letter extensively detailing my feedback on the structure, clarity, and tone of their work with suggestions for revision as well as line by line edits and notes within the manuscript. As a line editor, I polish final drafts with a focus on syntax, style, and tone. I review and revise query letters so that they abide by industry standards and grab the attention of agents and publishers.

I feel incredibly fortunate that Margaret edited my manuscript. She was thorough and detailed, providing excellent notes on POV, pacing, and character development. Not only did she improve my work but it was also a great learning experience for me. I would highly recommend her for anyone looking for a punctual, kind, and skilled editor.

What a rock star! So patient and asked a lot of great questions to guide me in revising my query letter and first few chapters on my manuscript.

I am extremely happy with my experience. I am a traditionally published author and Margaret’s feedback was as thoughtful, professional, detailed and comprehensive as anything I have received from publishing house editors preparing for publication. Margaret’s editorial letter was filled with insightful observations and comments on issues ranging from word choice and tone to pacing, plotting a...
