Marco Marella – Designer

Hello! I am a professional freelance illustrator with extensive and years-long experience in editorial and cover illustration, I started my freelance career back in the late 80's after attending the illustration course at Chelsea School of Arts in London, UK. Since then I worked for virtually all italian publishers, magazines and newspapers (really). My artworks also appeared on US, UK and french magazines and book covers (among my clients: the Washington Post, the Village Voice, Disney Hyperion Publishing, la Repubblica, Mondadori...). I am also very active on the product and licensing market, providing artworks for greeting cards, calendars, paper wraps, textile patterns (some clients: Hallmark USA, Legami Milano, WHSmith, Papyrus...). Finally, I love drawing maps and illustrate recipes!

I am a team player, quick to understand my cient's viewpoint, I believe the process of designing a great cover is all about collaboration, and I work closely with each author or publisher until everyone is happy with the outcome. All I need is a detailed brief and all suggestions and references the client can give me. And a deadline: I never missed one in my whole career, and if you ever worked with newspapers you'll understand what 'deadline' really means.

I will provide a round of roughs and will be happy to discuss and work on them before moving on to the final digital stage: there will be some creative back and forth! Artworks will be provided in hi-res files, layered if needed.

I can integrate hand lettering on my artworks but I do not usually provide graphic design services, unless very basic.
