Marc Campbell

Marc Campbell – Editor

Working PTR wonders for more than twenty-five years

Overview

You? In big trouble. Likely in a panic. Very probably in need of a miracle.

Me? A bona fide miracle worker and quarter-century veteran of the publishing industry. My specialty? Professional/technical/reference books, the harder to produce, the better, by committees of authors who are brilliant in their fields but maybe not always the most natural writers.

As an editor and editorial supervisor, I've completed multiple it-can't-be-done book-length projects for publishers like McGraw-Hill, Wiley, and Prentice Hall. I've also served as a technical editor, developmental editor, and manuscript reader for various other titles. I've managed authors directly since my first day on the job. Non-native English? Not a problem. Editing broken English off a third-generation mimeograph is just another Tuesday for me.

I can speak to your authors as a fellow traveler. As an author myself, I've written or co-written sixteen books for numerous publishers in the PTR space, including O'Reilly, Osborne, and Microsoft Press. My books are sold around the world in seven languages.

My approach to editing is like Michelangelo's to sculpture: precision interventions to reveal the inner quality, but with an activist streak that doesn't shy away from rewrites if that's what it takes to make the prose sing. I bleed serial commas. I dream in Chicago. I have not once missed a (professional) deadline.
