Eilidh Locherty – Editor

Full-time certified fiction line and copy editor, eager for the next plot twist to gasp over. Thrillers, romances, or fantasy—I love it all!

Overview

I’m a certified line and copy editor with a deep love for romance, thrillers, and fantasy (though I do work with any fiction genre). My editing approach is all about collaboration—I’m not just here to fix grammar or tighten sentences. I’m here to ask the right questions, offer reflective insight, and help you see your story from a fresh perspective. My mission is to enhance your unique voice while ensuring your manuscript is polished, clear, and ready to captivate your ideal reader.

When we work together, you’re not just getting an editor—you’re gaining a partner who’s as passionate about your story as you are. I believe in open dialogue, where every edit comes with an explanation, helping you understand the “why” behind each change. This way, you can make confident, informed decisions about your work. From our first chat to the final, polished draft, I’m with you every step of the way, offering regular updates and clear, actionable advice.

What really drives me is the opportunity to amplify underrepresented characters and marginalized voices. As an author myself, I understand how personal and important your story is. That’s why I treat every manuscript with the utmost care and respect. Together, we’ll work to shape your story into something that truly reflects your vision and resonates with your readers.

I specialize in line editing, copyediting, and proofreading US and UK English, with expertise in the Chicago Manual of Style, and I'm an EFA member.

Eilidh is a fantastic editor! She focuses on both what's working and what isn't in your writing, and provides constructive yet kind feedback on how to make things the best they can be. I knew going in that writing description was a weakness of mine, and Eilidh has been fantastic with her advice to strength that part of my writing. She's very personal and approachable, and you can tell she cares about her work and your manuscript. Not only did I receive a fully marked up manuscript with comments, but also a style sheet and a THIRTY-SEVEN page editorial report full of help links for further reading. If you need an editor, Eilidh is the one to choose! I will definitely work with her again! - Dave Lawson, The Envoys of War

Eilidh returned my manuscript to me this morning and it's clear that I have a thing or two to learn about commas! I was pretty confident that she wouldn't find any errors, as I had printed out my whole manuscript and gone over it with a fine tooth comb, but Eilidh managed to not only spot some spelling errors, but also where I had missed a full-stop from the end of a couple of sentences, not used a capital letter and put semi-colons in the wrong place. She has turned my manuscript into from an okay piece of work into something wonderful that I am proud of. I would highly recommend her and won’t hesitate to use her services again. - Caroline Blake, The Brief

I don't respond well to criticism. How can I find out if an editor's communication style will be right for me?

I completely understand—receiving criticism on something as personal as your writing can be tough, and finding the right editor makes all the difference. To start, you can request a sample edit, which lets you experience how they deliver feedback firsthand. This gives you a chance to see if their...
