Lisa Findley

Lisa Findley – Editor

15 years' experience working on literature & nonfiction. Gentle & encouraging approach appreciated by first-time authors.

Overview

I started my career as an in-house editor for Sourcebooks, one of the leading independent publishers in the US, where I copy edited and proofread legal self-help books, forging strong relationships with authors, designers, typesetters, and marketing professionals. I then worked for a newswire company while building my freelance base. After a move across the Atlantic, I edited and marketed books for Free Association Books, a London-based house, and expanded my freelance work to Europe. Two of my most popular fiction works are In Defense of Guilt and Against My Will, both by Benjamin Berkley.

My approach is always collaborative--this is your work, and my job is to enhance your unique voice while correcting and clarifying where necessary. When you send me your manuscript, I edit in Track Changes, so that you can see every single change I make and decide if it's right for you. This also allows me to make comments and queries right in the text, so you can see the exact spot I'm talking about. For fiction, I like to have a short conversation with you before diving into the text, to get a better understanding of your overall vision and any particular style choices you want to preserve. I'm happy to answer any and all questions, so do please get in touch.

In fiction, I've worked in both realistic and speculative genres. In nonfiction, I specialize in social sciences and legal writing. Some of my work has been with people completing PhDs, so I am used to a high level of academic rigor. I work in both American and British English.
