Overview
I'm a professional non-fiction editor with a love for romance and mystery fiction and over five years of experience in publishing. As a former police officer, I enjoy sinking my teeth into a good crime story, true or fictionalized and can provide practical feedback as well as editorial. While the bulk of my career has focused on non-fiction editing, I have also worked with independently published romance authors and am open to genre fiction.
I believe good editing should be equal parts finding places to improve the story and sharing what is working well. An author's voice is one of the most important parts of a manuscript, and my goal is to bring that out and make it shine. I will always provide clear and concise feedback but leave the interpretation of how to translate that to the page for you to decide. Reading a manuscript draft is a privilege, and I know the hard work that goes into writing one. Whatever your vision for your story, I want to help you make it a reality.
"[Laurie's] professionalism means timely and detailed edits that give just the right kind of feedback for an author to take their manuscript to the next level."
- Hannah Morse, Romance author.
"Laurie is a fantastic collaborator. All of her feedback is helpful, thoughtful, and clearly communicated. I can't wait to work with her again in the future." - Jennifer P., Romance author.
"[Laurie's] suggestions and feedback will make my manuscript stronger, more cohesive, and clearer for my readers. She caught problems with my characters motivations and interactions as well as the police procedures in handling a snoopy citizen. Her communication was clear, concise, and timely."
- Noreen, Cozy Mystery author.
"[Laurie] is absolutely amazing. Her analysis of my manuscript was thorough and spot on. The feedback ranges from very specific to big picture. I feel so much better about my first book thanks to her efforts!"
- BT, True Crime author.
