Overview
My name is Laura, and I have over ten years of experience working as an in-house developmental nonfiction editor at New York City publishers, including St. Martin's Press, Callisto Media, Crooked Lane Books/Alcove Press, and Insight Editions. As a copy-editor and proofreader, I edit both nonfiction and fiction. My clients include St. Martin's Publishing Group, Flatiron Books, Tor and its imprints, Sourcebooks, Workman Publishing, and more. I am passionate about books that help readers live fulfilling lives, broaden their understanding of the world, and empower them to become the best version of themselves.
I edit books at any stage of the publishing process—from inception to publication. My services range from book coaching to developmental editing to copy-editing to proofreading. Here's a little more about what I can do to make your book shine:
--As a book coach, I work with you to firm up your book idea and create a book outline so you can begin writing with confidence. For nonfiction, I'll conduct market research to ensure your book idea will stand out in the crowded marketplace, and together, we'll create a detailed outline. For fiction, we'll map out the plot and get to know your characters.
--Preparing to query an agent or publisher or planning to self-publish? I can help with a developmental edit. This service includes a full content edit of your manuscript, with an accompanying editorial letter. I also offer line editing as a second round of developmental editing.
--As a copy-editor, I focus on editing for grammar and punctuation, style and format, and fact checking as needed. This edit comes after a developmental edit.
--As a proofreader and/or slugger, I edit designed first and second pass pages for consistency, and to ensure that the pages are free of typos and typesetting errors. This edit comes after the copy-edit and on designed proof pages.
I can't wait to work with you!
