Lara Hyde

Lara Hyde – Editor

I specialize in romance fiction but have edited books across all genres, including erotica, fantasy, children's books and non-fiction.

Overview

I am a professional editor (substantive editing and copy editing) and proofreader who has been working in the field for over 15 years. I started out as an in-house editor for a traditional publishing house (Harlequin, now a division of Harper Collins) and have parlayed my experience into freelancing for publishers, as well as individual clients.

I have degrees in journalism and education and I particularly love editing memoirs and young adult fiction. In the past, I have had the honour of working on books by romance queen, Debbie Macomber, and thriller author, Rick Mofina, in addition to hundreds of other talented and inspiring writers. I love the process of polishing a manuscript to see it reach its full potential!

In addition to editing, my other loves are reading anything and everything (duh!), interior design, travelling with my family, and sweating over the New York Times Sunday Crossword while sipping on a cold brew--coffee, that is...though if it takes me into the evening, I might reach for a glass of rosé...

It would be my honour to help you refine your manuscript so that you can be truly proud of it before sending it out into the world! Looking forward to hearing from you.

Self-employed

I am primarily a freelance editor, performing content edits, copy edits, editorial evaluations and other editorial-related tasks, including proofreading and writing back cover copy. Although I specialize in romance fiction, I have experience editing a wide range of fiction from erotica to thrillers and children's books, and am open to most other fiction genres as well. I have also edited a number of non-fiction titles and am especially interested in biographies/autobiographies.

In addition to my freelance editing work, I've been a contributing writer for Canadian parenting magazine, INBETWEEN, since its launch in December 2013, with published articles on a diverse range of topics from eating disorders to beauty trends and interviews with celebrities. My writing experience extends to writing press releases, proposals and website copy for clients, as well as contributing television-based articles to an entertainment website.
