Overview

I have worked in the publishing industry for 9 years with a successful track record of editing and selling SFF, horror, and non-fiction projects in both the adult and young adult market.

My editorial services focus on developing and fine-tuning a project before it's submitted to agents or publishers for consideration. This includes an editorial letter which addresses world-building, plot/structure, character development, and consistency.

I'm also available to provide shorter editorial letters with inline comments, via TrackChanges, addressing aspects which may need more developing.

I especially enjoy building non-fiction proposals and am more than happy to help you build one.

Projects I have edited, developed, and sold include:

Michael Hodges — THE PULLER, THE INVASIVE, BLACK FRIDAY
Johnny Compton — THE SPITE HOUSE (sold to Tor/Nightfire for six-figures)
Donyae Coles — MIDNIGHT ROOMS (sold to HarperCollins/Amistad in pre-empt)
Dr. Paul Sutter — YOUR PLACE IN THE UNIVERSE, HOW TO DIE IN SPACE
Susan Ashline — WITHOUT A PRAYER
Andrew Post — CHOP SHOP, MONDO CRIMSON, SWITCHBOARD
Suzanne Young — WHERE THE NIGHT HAS TEETH, THE PROGRAM, GIRLS WITH SHARP STICKS
Dr. Robin George Andrews — SUPER VOLCANOES
Jim Tracy — SWORN TO SILENCE
Diana Rodriguez Wallach — SMALL TOWN MONSTERS, PROOF OF LIES

****My services as a freelance editor are wholly separate from my position as a literary agent, which means I cannot and will not consider or represent any project I review/edit as an editor. Nor will I refer you to another agent and/or publisher. This is my profession and I will not partake in any, or implied, pay for play or conflict of interest. These services are only meant to help you strengthen your project for the next stage in your journey.***

I worked with Lane on a synopsis (and, previously, a query letter). He seems deeply knowledgeable about publishing, even compared to prior agents and authors I've worked with. He gave me a lot of great advice on my synopsis and query that I'd never read or heard anywhere else. Before you submit a novel, I'd highly recommend reaching out to Lane.

I'm very impressed with Lane. I worked with him on a query letter. Even after my query had been edited by three prior editors, all highly qualified, Lane still made major improvements. I don't yet know whether my book will get published, but I'm almost certain it wouldn't have without Lane's help. Strongly recommended.

I've had several editors review earlier versions of my query letter, but Lane's critique was by far the most credible and helpful. He knows his stuff and it's obvious to me that he put a lot of thought into his comments. I strongly recommend his services.

Lane was quick and professional. He provided me with the exact feedback I was looking for and pointed out some important details I had overlooked.
