Through my recent position as a senior editor of a leading academic research institution, I have experience editing persuasive, high-stakes grant proposals and technical research manuscripts for peer-reviewed biomedical journals, as well as patient education materials and website content for lay audiences. My background includes writing and editing fiction and nonfiction for children, teaching writing skills to community college students and non-native speakers of English, and serving diverse patient populations as a critical care nurse. These experiences have given me the ability to make complex topics clear, accessible, and compelling for distinct audiences.
Good communication is important for the success of any project. Although email works well in most instances, sometimes nothing replaces a well-timed phone discussion or Zoom session, depending on project needs and client preferences. Once I understand your project goals and audience, I will address the "big picture" aspects of content and organization first. Then I will look at how paragraphs, sentences, and words fit together to create style, voice, and impact for your target audience while maintaining technical accuracy. A final reading polishes grammar, punctuation, and any necessary formatting. I use the MS Word Track Changes feature throughout the editing process so that writers can easily see the changes and maintain control over the final product.
