Kevin Conley

Kevin Conley – Ghostwriter

I'm a writer and ghostwriter with more than 25 years experience in non-fiction at The New Yorker, GQ, Vogue, and Town & Country.

Overview

What did it take to get where you are now? What was the great tragedy along the way? Who or what did you have to overcome? What rules do you live by and how have they changed? What steps did you take to guarantee your greatest success? Let's shape all these epic battles into a page turner.

Or wait: maybe success came easy. Even better. Everyone will want to know how on earth you made that happen.

I have a long resume that boils down to this: I listen and I write. I ghostwrote the autobiography of Leonard Lauder and I did the same work on the monthly food columns that chef David Bouley published in Town & Country in 2013-2015. As a writer of profiles and non-fiction features, I have focused on the life stories of passionate experts in all walks of life—movie stars, stuntmen, prima ballerinas, roller coaster engineers, Nobel Prize winning physicists, Medal of Honor recipients, NASCAR drivers, Super Bowl MVPs, the owners of world's most sought after stallions. I listen for hours, talking happily with fascinating people, collecting the details that gave birth to their deep fascinations. Then we turn those fascinations into something sharp and fast paced.

We begin with the broad strokes, sketching the shape of life and finding the central drama and motivating urges. Then we find an outline—a strategy for the road ahead—and begin the interviews that will give substance to the major episodes and turning points.

Every story is different and every story demands its own methods, but there's a strong chance that early in the process, we'll focus on a single incident, a pivotal and dramatic turning point in life, something that can set the bar for what's to come, to get a feel for the voice. We'll draw up a plan and a calendar and keep track of our progress against those expectations. I have worked for years on a regular disciplined deadline. So we'll welcome new developments but keep to our pragmatic schedule.

Get in touch. Let's tell your story.
