Kayla Griffin

Kayla Griffin – Editor

Academic publisher with 5+ years of experience. I specialize in LGBTQ studies, social justice, and psychology.

Overview

I am a Production Editor for an academic publishing press, where I work mainly within the subjects of philosophy, Asian studies, Jewish studies, ancient Near-East studies, linguistics, contemporary anthropology, and law. While I love working with these subjects, I very much enjoy opportunities to work within fields that are personal to me and my interests - such as LGBTQI studies, social justice studies, and psychology. I have received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Writing, Literature, and Publishing which allowed me to experience virtually every step of the book production process, from creating proposals, to developmental editing, to final copyediting. While obtaining my degree, I achieved a minor in Women, Gender, and Sexuality studies, and a concentration in psychology.

I offer copyediting and proofreading services, which include editing for clarity, ensuring consistency in grammar and spelling, citation and reference formatting, and standardizing the overall format. I am trained in several different style guides but I specialize in Chicago Manual of Style (CMS), Associated Press (AP), and Modern Language Association (MLA). Fair warning: I ask a lot of questions! I know first hand how personal any type of writing project can be and appreciate the abundance of work and passion that have already gone into any piece that I work on. It is vital that your vision for your project is centered at all stages of our collaboration and I always want to make sure that I understand what you are looking for so that I can provide exactly what is needed.

My main strength is adaptability. While I work primarily with copyediting and proofreading services, of course every project has it's own needs. What is most important is that your project is exactly as you envision it (or as close as possible!) and I don't consider my work completed until this is achieved. My goals for every project that I work on include maintaining your unique voice when editing for clarity, clear communication about any changes that I might make, and creating a collaborative environment to ensure the final project is the best it can be.

Thank you so much for considering me to collaborate with you!

Kayla has been a pleasure to work with! Her knowledge of LGBTQ communities and psychological concepts has been of tremendous value for our collaboration. She was able to help me turn a couple of presentations into transcriptions and then into articles for publishing. I would happily hire her again!

Overall, I had a favorable experience working with Kayla, and I would seek her services again. Although I found a few minor mistakes/editorial inconsistencies in the proofread after she returned it to me, it's my opinion that an author should always peruse their proof before publication to catch any lingering issues. There were times when Kayla was not punctual with her replies, but she apologi...
