Katie Zanecchia

Katie Zanecchia – Editor

Former literary agent for nonfiction (memoir, current affairs, business) and fiction (literary, thriller) with 10+yrs publishing experience.

Overview

A former literary agent, with additional editing experience at literary magazines and the Columbia Publishing Course, I'm a expert at helping authors think through their projects editorially, whether they're developing their initial book concept or just putting final touches on a manuscript. Having worked in and around the book publishing business for over a decade, including as a literary agent of fiction and non-fiction at both Writers House and Ross Yoon, I have deep background in literary fiction, thrillers, social justice oriented books, politics and current affairs, as well as all forms of memoir.

An advocate at heart, I look forward to working to individually supporting authors across a variety of genres and levels of experience. I have worked with debut novelists, political advocates, and academics, and can adapt to several different styles of communication, depending on what work best for my client. Whether that's a phone call to work through some big-picture ideas or line-by-line track changes and a long editorial letter, I'm here to help you finish your book, your way. And with experience in all aspects of the book business, I can not only help you with editorial support, but I can also provide consulting in website development, query letter writing, and digital marketing efforts.

Work experience

Self-employed

Jul, 2013 — Present

Helping authors move from initial concept to polished product. This editorial guidance includes brainstorming book ideas, honing in on narrative ideas, developmental editing, and line-by-line polishing. I can work with non-fiction book proposals, memoirs, or novels spanning thrillers to literary fiction.

I also approach this work holistically, helping authors -- whether traditionally or self-published -- build their online presence and brand. This might include supporting their editor's and publisher's efforts leading up to the publication of his book, building author websites from scratch, or consulting on a publisher's digital marketing plans.

Ross Yoon Agency

May, 2016 — Aug, 2018 (over 2 years)

As a literary agent, I represented fiction and non-fiction authors whose work catalyzes social change, challenges the status quo, and gives voice to the underrepresented. This work included deals with big five publishers like Simon and Schuster and Crown, as well as with independent publishers like Tin House, New Press, and Counterpoint.

I advocated for their writing careers from initial proposal and novel development, through the submission and writing process, all the way through the book's publication. I have experience reading and evaluating query letters, writing pitch letters, and providing developmental editorial support on a variety of projects.

Writers House

Dec, 2009 — Jul, 2012 (over 2 years)

In addition to administrative support, I read and evaluated submissions, provided editorial support for clients' projects -- from middle grade fantasy and thrillers to nonfiction proposals on history and current affairs and literary novels. I also drafted pitch letters, performed comp title research, and advised on digital marketing efforts.

Katie listened very carefully to the specific questions I wanted addressed in the editorial assessment, and provided meaningful overall feedback on the manuscript as well as thoughtful suggestions relevant to my questions. She was prompt with her communications and delivered on schedule. Katie scheduled a conversation to review the written report and comments, and that added a great deal of cl...
