Overview
I'm an editor with three years' experience in developmental editing and four in copyediting. I excel at both close line editing firmly grounded in industry standard style guidelines such as Chicago Manual of Style and APA and at an in-depth consideration of structure, form, and tone. As a former editor with Solution Tree Press, a leading publisher of books for K-12 educators, the topics I've worked with represent a diverse range: literacy, early childhood education, project-based learning, formative assessment, and nature-based learning are just a few examples. Many of my editing projects have focused on student initiative, creative problem solving, and an encouragement of student reflection on and ownership of the learning process as much as on subjects learned. I am fascinated with explorations of how people learn and how learning intersects with culture, community, and the natural world.
I take a collaborative and proactive approach when working with authors, seeking to, as fully as possible, understand an author's work and goals for that work. In the developmental process, I act as an editorial expert who knows when and how to shift, expand, or streamline information and as a coach and thought partner who helps authors articulate their best ideas and make those ideas work to support reader engagement with their topics. In both the developmental and copyediting process, my top priority is understanding, respecting, and clarifying author intent and voice.
