Meticulous copyeditor and proofreader with 25+ years of experience editing diverse titles in spirituality, psychology, sports, and memoir
I have close to thirty years of experience as an editor. I began my career at Tuttle Publishing in Boston (Buddhism, art, design) and later worked at several New York publishing firms in-house and freelance. I covered topics as diverse as art, architecture, gardening, design, and cooking (coffee table books); non-fiction children's books (educational); some YA; history; politics; psychology; spirituality; sustainability; pop culture; music; and memoirs.
Once you've finished writing and polishing your work, put it down. Take a breath. Now it's time to let go and take action. Let me copyedit or proofread your manuscript into tip-top shape before you submit it to agents or publishers. Most errors are avoidable. Don't let your writing be overlooked or relegated to the slush pile!
Here is my process:
1. I provide a free quote based on the total word count of your manuscript and the sample chapter you provide. If the rate suits you, I offer a 1-page sample edit. If you like my work, I'll send a contract. Note: The standard publishing page is 250 words, so a 50,000-word manuscript is 200 pages. I edit 6-8 pages/per hour, depending on the condition of the manuscript. Rates for Copyediting: $40/hour. Proofreading: $25/hour. To learn about copyediting vs. proofreading, refer to my website above.
2. I'll begin the editing process after you've accepted and signed the contract. I might email you for any global queries along the way. I'll send you the entire manuscript upon the agreed-upon due date. If I need more time, I will always reach out in advance.
3. I edit using Word, PDFs, Google Docs, and even pencil-to-paper. I enjoy editing authors in a realistic yet empathetic way, shaping the text as much (or as little) as you prefer.
4. Feel free to contact me anytime.
Thank you for letting me be your Editor!
Sincerely,
Kate
