Kait Feldmann

Kait Feldmann – Editor

Hello! I'm an editor of award-winning picture books with a decade of experience romping around Scholastic and HarperCollins.

Overview

Are you a writer looking to get your story to the next step? I'd love to collaborate! I've been in children's publishing since 2014, and have worked on over 150 books, with experience editing and proofreading picture books through YA. My specialty however is picture books and graphic novels--that's where you'll find me in a bookstore and I bet that's where I might find you, too!

"Kait is a fabulous editor. She’s insightful, open-hearted, and attentive as she polishes a manuscript’s overall theme and story-arc and as she considers each word choice. All the while, she keeps the kid-readers front and center, honoring their emotions (and senses of humor!). I was introduced to Kait when my previous editor left, and as a super worrywart I was nervous to be reassigned editors—but my agent reassured me Kait was a gem in the industry. Yep, soon I learned, I’d won the lottery. "

— Jean Reagan, author of TURBO'S SPECIAL DELIVERY and the NY Times bestselling HOW TO BABYSIT series

“Kait was my first editor and she set an incredibly high bar. Working with Kait has been a transformative experience for me. She has brillant taste, a keen eye for details and an incredible ability to connect with the essence of a story. Her editorial feedback was both insightful and constructive, pushing the humor and perfecting its pacing, bringing out the best in my story while preserving its authenticity. Kait's dedication to cultivating a positive and collaborative editing process made my experience immensely enjoyable and rewarding too. Her funny, warm and encouraging demeanor created an environment where I felt heard and valued. She is a fierce champion for all of her authors and illustrators, and her unwavering passion for children’s literature is inspiring. If you're searching for someone who possesses the rare alchemy of skill, passion, humor, and empathy, look no further.”

— Isabella Kung, author of the NO FUZZBALL! series

Kait's edits and recommendations toward my project were very thorough and meaningful. She provided me the opportunity to look at my project through a broader lens, so that I could be more inclusive while not losing my message. I love that her feedback helped me think more critically, but was also complimentary. I also appreciate how educational she was for me toward the process. I look forward...

Kait responded with a quote very quickly as I was on a tight deadline. Her feedback was thorough and very helpful! She really gave thoughtful suggestions that have made my picture book so much stronger. Her editorial letter was very detailed, but still the voice sounded like my work. Highly recommend Kait!
