Julie Breihan

Julie Breihan – Editor

Editor with over twenty-five years’ experience. Thorough and diligent, I strive to be fun to work with and to make your book shine!

Overview

I am a freelance editor who has been in the publishing business for over twenty-five years. I got my undergrad in elementary education at Texas A&M. I realized pretty quickly teaching eight-year-olds was not in my wheelhouse and went back to school to get my master's in English. Shortly afterward I began working as a freelance proofreader and editor. Over the years I have worked for multiple publishing houses and with many individual clients.

I specialize in line editing, copy editing, and substantive editing, but I also do some proofing on the side. I work on lots of different genres, including novels (historical and contemporary), picture books, Christian living, humor, business, finance and business, politics, cookbooks. I really love it all, and I have found that working on a variety of genres and topics keeps me sharp and entertained, which makes work a pleasure and every new project an adventure.

My passion is to work with authors to make their books the very best they can be and to make their voice and vision for their work come alive. It's no small thing to finally put pen to page and write the book you've always been dreaming of writing, and then it's even more stressful to turn your baby over to a stranger to take their red pen to it and critique it. It's a very vulnerable position to be in, and I consider it a privilege when someone entrusts their work to me. It's my job to hone a story so that your work can shine!

Getting a quote: I prefer to work with a flat fee, so when you contact me if you would give me a word count and a time frame and some idea of the kind of work you are looking for, that would an awesome starting place. If you don't know the answer to that last question, that's okay. We can figure that out together and then I can give you more details about the process and what it would cost.

I am looking forward to helping you make your dream of being a published author come true with a quality of work you can always be proud of!

Working or trying to work with Julie and the brief communications we had was both professional and open. Didn’t get to see her expertise on my project yet because of unforeseen personal challenges. Yet I’m still confident and convinced she’s the editor for my project and many more to follow. She has a great personality, and pleasant and looking forward to when we can actually work together!!!

I couldn't recommend Julie more for your copy editing needs. Timely, collaborative, supportive and encouraging, honest and suggestive, detailed, thorough! Fun. I hope that I get the opportunity to work with her on future projects, but as a first time author of a fiction novel, the service exceeded my expectations! Thank you Julie!

I absolutely loved working with Julie. She really took the time to go through my work and make it better, without getting rid of my own personal voice of the story. She was very communicative during the process and made sure I was well taken care of.
