Overview
I had the pleasure of copyediting Onstage, Offstage, and In-Between: Negotiating Gay Identity and Teacher Identity in the Choral Classroom for Dr. Nicholas McBride, which received the 2017 Outstanding Dissertation Award from the Council for Research in Music Education.
I got my start in—and have the most experience in—academia; however, I would be very interested in working with science fiction and fantasy authors in the future.
Testimonials:
"I have been very pleased to work with Joshua John for the last three years. He was recommended to me by a colleague as a superb editor. Joshua is attentive to the details of the paper, formatting in particular ways as dictated by academic submission guidelines with impressive timeliness. Joshua also thinks deeply about the content, often providing insights that spur me to consider a broader perspective that ultimately refines my manuscripts. As importantly, he has the ability to give substantial critique in a kind way that feels supportive and collaborative. I credit him with helping refine my papers and find successes, therefore spurring my confidence and continued productivity. He is everything someone would want in an editor and colleague."

"I have great confidence in Joshua John as an editor. I have recommended him to many of my graduate students, and he has been very helpful to them as they complete dissertations and theses. He is also excellent when helping scholars who are non-native English speakers preparing manuscripts for submission to publications. He is dependable, thorough, meets deadlines, is fair in billing, knows all the major style manuals, and is beyond competent. I highly recommend him."

I began copy editing while completing my undergraduate degree at Rider University when a professor and mentor reached out for assistance with several submissions to Visions of Research in Music Education that did not meet the journal's professional writing standards. My work was instrumental in the success of these and many future articles written for submission to other peer-reviewed journals as well as chapters written for publication in academic texts such as The Oxford Handbook of Choral Pedagogy and The Oxford Handbook of Preservice Music Teacher Education in the United States.
