Agent/director at Selby Howard Literary Agency, previously Artellus. Freelance editor, with experience at top literary consultancies.

Overview

Hello!

I'm Jon, a literary agent and director at Selby Howard Literary Agency.

I started my career at Artellus Ltd., where from 2016 I worked on books all over the world, and of a broad variety; from literary debuts (Kyra Wilder's 'Little Bandaged Days' and Ashleigh Bell Pedersen's 'The Crocodile Bride') to history, politics, and science (Christopher Othen's 'The King of Nazi Paris' and Lukasz Bednarski's 'Lithium') and memoir (Emily Wells's 'A Matter of Appearance').

Books I've worked on have been published in the UK, US, Germany, France, India, the Netherlands, South Korea - and books I've represented and worked on have been reviewed and featured in The Guardian, The New York Times, The Telegraph, The Times, The TLS, and Channel 4 News.

Now as director of my own agency, our clients include Booker-shortlised Fiona Mozley, biographer Roger Lewis, cultural writer Eli Davies, lifestyle author Rebecca Wilson (What Mummy Makes), and many others.

In my role as a freelance editor, since 2015, I've developed a friendly and constructive style in working on development reports, editorial assessments, copy-edits, proof-reads, and query assessments. On Reedsy, I'm looking to share my industry knowledge and experience, together with my years of experience as an editor, in helping authors realise the full potential of their work.

*Please note that my work here is separate from my work as an agent*

Jon was very professional and helpful. I asked for a report about my novel opening and query package, and Jon’s report was exactly what I was looking for. He understood my project and he suggested an elegant, interesting solution to my ‘issue’ that I would never have thought of. He is insightful,...

Jon provided one of the most valuable editorial experiences I've had. His report was insightful, encouraging, and practical, and he clearly engaged deeply with the manuscript. He identified the larger structural issues while recognizing the strengths of the writing, and his feedback fundamentally...

Working with Jon was a very positive experience. His editing was comprehensive and insightful and his suggestions have informed my work beyond the scope of the submitted material. He’s professional, personable and motivational to boot. In short - I’d highly recommend a project submission to Jon C...

His report was very detailed, with all sorts of feedback which I could immediately sta...
