Jessica Kasmer-Jacobs

Jessica Kasmer-Jacobs – Editor

I'm a former WSJ book review editor and literary agent, specializing in Jewish books, serious nonfiction, and literary fiction.

Overview

I'm an editor and writer with 15 years of experience in the book industry as a book reviewer, editor, and agent. I started my career at the Wall Street Journal book reivew where I learned how to edit, proof, commission, and meet deadlines from the absolute best in the business. I learned about publishing from the review side: how books are chosen, which should recieve attention and how to write a tight, honest, and compelling review to a large book-buying audience.

From there I became a literary agent after a quick pit stop in Dublin for a master's degree in Irish literarture. As an agent, I scouted for projects across genres and worked with authors through the entire process, transforming the germ of an idea into a published book. I like to get in early and help develop nonfiction projects with an author, and I am a deep developmental editor for fiction that I love.

I have sold books to international audiences in many languages, from six-figure deals with the big five to smaller deals with boutique publishers. As an agent, I stayed by my author's sides through publication day and help build the life the book out in the world. Whether by building bespoke marketing campaigns or supplementing an imprint's publicity goals, I am aggressive about getting my books the attention they deserve.

I am a creative and current publishing professional with a keen eye and no fear of AI. I have a love for this industry and an obsession with how the market is changing as our relationships to books and stories shift with time and technology.

The joy will always be in bringing a book to readers hungry for something only you can give them.
