Overview
I am a children's and YA editor with twenty years' experience in the industry. At Orion Children's Books I worked with writers such as Sally Gardner, Phil Earle, Liz Kessler, Kate Pankhurst and Leigh Bardugo, as well as on big brands like Horrid Henry, before I left in 2015 to pursue a freelance career.
Since then, I've worked with UK publishing houses, big and small, as well as with agents, literary consultancies like The Golden Egg Academy, and directly with authors themselves. This year I was shortlisted for the Branford Boase Award 2026 (the only award that recognises the role of the editor!), alongside my fellow editor Natasha Brown, for Kenechi Udogu's YA sci-fi thriller, Augmented.
I love working with writers at all stages of their journey. I love thinking about character development and story structure and world building, as well as unpicking plot niggles and teasing out emotional depth in the line so that the story really packs a punch. When I provide an editorial report, I will usually mark up the manuscript too, so you can see the feedback in situ. I'm also a thorough copyeditor and proofreader. I believe the best editing is always a collaborative process, and I can't wait to work with you to make your story the best it can possibly be.
