Overview
I am a former acquisitions editor at the University of Kentucky, where I specialized in Appalachian literature. Some of my successful acquisitions include: A Kentucky Christmas, Ecotourism in Appalachia, Listen Here, Ginseng Dreams, Appalachian Home Cooking, Famous People I Have Known, The Holy Profane, Songs of Life and Grace, Bees in America, Girls Rock!, It’s the Cowboy Way!, and Yates Paul, His Grand Flights, His Tootings. I currently teach English for Fayette County Public Schools in Lexington, Kentucky.
My background in developmental editing and acquisitions will be a one-stop shop from the query letter to the final submission. My passion is helping you cut the superfluous and tightening up your writing. I am interested in helping authors research and develop characters and setting. My experience includes fact-checking academic writing and making it more accessible to a broader audience.
Testimonials:
My search for a screenplay editor came to an end when a friend referred me to Jennifer P. I immediately reached out and she took the time to have a lengthy all-encompassing consultation meeting with me. I realized from our first meeting that she was the right choice for what I wanted to accomplish and could tell that she was passionate about editing. Jennifer gave me an accurate schedule and approximate budget during our meeting. Upon sending my project, "A Dyin' Breed" a one-hundred twenty page screenplay, she wasted no time getting started, and performed the edit flawlessly while staying within budget and schedule.
Because of the excellent and honest work she performed on "A Dyin' Breed," I rehired her to edit my latest project, "Elements of Disaster". This project (once completed) will be a ten-part episodic series, with each episode totaling around fifty-five pages. Currently she has edited the first four episodes, and is helping me to navigate the storyline with critical feedback and crucial direction.
She has helped me become a better writer through professional suggestions, corrections, notes, and feedback. If you're looking for an honest, hardworking, professional and communicative editor, I'd highly recommend acquiring Jennifer P. for your project.
Denny Rodman, screenwriter
Jennifer P. has a sixth sense in being able to sense a manuscript, coach a direction from a writer, encourage a writer to lean in when topics are complex or pull back if the topics don’t fit. Working with Jennifer P. changed my life! My book Bees in America: How the Honey Bee Changed a Nation is still changing my life, but it started with Ms. P. encouraging a manuscript that did not even exist. We started with notes, added research, and kept working on the manuscript until it became a book still in print and still valued by readers today. In addition, Jennifer P. is a joy to work with, which made the process much easier.
