Overview
I’m Iain. I write novels and build websites for people who probably write better ones. I’ve done the second for about twenty years, on and off, alongside my day job as an IT director for a software company, where I’m expected to know all the plumbing: hosting, domains, email, networking, and why a site is slow. Dull for the most part, but when these bits break, many designers can’t help.
Recent sites I’ve completed include novelist and biographer Nicholas Shakespeare, prolific thriller writer James Oswald, writer and journalist Julian Evans, and indie thriller writer Iain Cameron. Earlier ones include Tom Bale, Tahir Shah and Tarquin Hall. Ask me and I’ll send you the links.
What you’ll get if you engage my services is a site built around your books, grouped as you write them, with a “start here” for new readers and buy links that work seamlessly in the UK and US. I use your words throughout; I don’t rewrite authors or write my own copy. A simple editor lets you add a book, blog post, or event yourself, and I handle anything else via a support ticketing system at the end of an email. Hosting and care come with a yearly fee, so once it’s live you can safely forget about it.
What I won’t do: WordPress (I built them for fifteen years and know exactly why not), 3D book mock-ups, cookie banners, or anything that slows your site down. Every site I publish passes Google PageSpeed with at least 95% for mobile and desktop. If you want a site that looks like everyone else’s, I’m the wrong person. If you want one that looks like yours, say hello.

Lawrence Winkler
A new static site for Physician, traveller and natural philosopher Lawrence Winkler to replace the WordPress one I built and looked after for him for a decade, faster and with every book given its own page.
His blog stays where it is, linked from the new site, and his old addresses lead to the new pages.
Julian Evans
A new site for Writer, broadcaster and translator Julian Evans in place of his WordPress one, for his books, journalism, radio, film and translation, with a section of its own for his Write at Garavicchio writing course.
His old addresses lead to the new pages, including each piece from his old blog.
Gillian Johnson
Co-author and illustrator of Women and ADHD
A single page for Women and ADHD, the book Gillian Johnson Shakespeare wrote with Dr Sally Cubbin, using her own drawings and the colours of its cover.
It has the buy links, advance praise and their events, and went live on publication day.
James Oswald
A new site for Crime and fantasy novelist James Oswald, all his books and the series they belong to, his events and his blog, with newsletter sign-ups going straight to his own mailing list.
He adds blog posts and events himself.
