Heather Millar

Heather Millar – Editor

Accredited editor specialising in biography, memoir, self-help, psychology, spirituality, general non-fiction. Former editor at Hardie Grant

Overview

I am passionate about helping people tell their stories as clearly and concisely as possible. I offer developmental and structural editing, as well as copy editing and proofreading.

I’m an accredited editor with over 25 years' experience in publishing houses in the UK and Australia and in my own freelance editorial business. I am also on the board of Life Stories Australia.

I have edited a number of books published by traditional mainstream publishers, including a best-selling book published by Penguin, and I have assisted many writers to self-publish.

Testimonials:

When deciding on an editor for my book, it was important for me to connect with someone who could see and understand my vision, as well as connecting with my story. Heather was able to do that. I also gained a lot of learning along the way. Heather really opened my eyes and mind up to the craft of writing, and worked with me in a way that I could understand. I am so appreciative for her work and what I’ve learnt.

Darcia Ondrovcik, author and owner, Beauty in Strength

Engaging Heather to edit my manuscript was the smartest, wisest decision I made, as a novice writer. She was a godsend. I know Heather will treasure and shape the words you wish to share with others, while holding you and your story safe.

Heather's insight and comments regarding my memoir are so extremely valuable. She allowed and encouraged me to go deeper into my story and pull out information which added to and made my story better. She suggested adding to the story in parts which while emotionally tough for me to write about proved important to tell my readers. Thanks Heather!

Heather was very professional in her attitude and knowledge. The process of editing my manuscript and collaborating with me along the way was excellent as it gave the opportunity to reassess areas that did not flow and make adjustments when needed. I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone wanting a professional to assess their manuscript.

This was the first time I worked with Heather. The assignment was relatively simple: proofreading a book. But she was quick and accurate, her edits were easy to note and apply, and she was a pleasure to work with. She certainly gained my confidence. I will be looking to assign copyediting tasks to her in a future project.

Jacques was a great client to work with. Very responsive to questions, clear in his brief. Would definitely be keen to work with him again.
