Haley Casey

Haley Casey – Editor

My name is Haley, a freelance editor and literary agent who has worked in publishing since 2016. I'd love to collaborate on your next WIP!

Overview

I have always had a special place in my heart for stories and fell in love with literature at an early age.

In 2015, I graduated from The University of Kansas with a bachelor’s degree in creative writing, and that fall, I attended the Denver Publishing Institute. I began my full-time career at Ogden Publications, where I was an editor for four years.

In 2020, I interned at two literary agencies before stepping into my role as an associate agent. As of 2024, I've successfully sold over a dozen books in varying genres and age groups to major and independent presses.

I'm an editorial agent, which means that, professionally, I perform an assessment of each of my clients' manuscripts before they ever go out on submission and we discuss, in-depth, which large-scale revisions will help their stories shine. I apply the same editing strengths to my freelance work! I strongly believe that my job as an editor is to help an author bring their unique voice and storytelling capabilities to the forefront, and that an author should learn enough from a significant editing partnership that they can apply that feedback to future writing—with or without me. I read with an eye toward world-building and characterization first and foremost; plot holes and momentum secondarily; and finally with a focus on emotional resonance. And I can apply my literary agent eye to any query letter review!

I'm so happy I had Haley look at my query letter and first five pages. She provided invaluable feedback that allowed me to see my letter from a different angle, and she asked incredibly insightful questions to get me to see my character's actions the way an agent would. I would absolutely recomme...
