Work experience

Self-employed

Oct, 2018 — Present

As a freelance designer and developer I have worked with a wide variety of clients delivering both web and graphic design, including brand development and print work. I also assist with copy writing and photography depending on the client’s requirements. As a business owner, my skills with client communication have developed immensely, allowing me to get to the core of what each client needs, and provide each one with a high-quality and efficient service. I've also learned how to manage multiple projects and deadlines, developing an excellent grasp on time management.

Output Digital

Jul, 2015 — Sep, 2018 (about 3 years)

Over the course of my time at Output Digital my skills as a frontend developer were given room to progress. Working in a larger team on bigger projects required learning the basics of various programming systems, in order to allow me to build frontend frameworks based on these systems. More complex and challenging designs meant learning to think of elegant solutions, and in turn built my skills as a frontend developer. Over my time here I built a reputation as a reliable and efficient worker, both with clients through daily interaction, and with my colleagues and management.

We Are duo

Jun, 2013 — Jul, 2015 (about 2 years)

I worked as a designer and front-end developer, dealing directly with clients to determine what best suited their needs, before moving on to design and build their website.

Projects

Skyncare

Well-established as UK laser experts, Skyncare's highly-qualified professional team deliver advanced light-based systems with a reputation for results. Combined with comprehensive training and unrivalled customer-focused support, they couple extensive industry knowledge and experience to ensure their customers' success.

Working directly with their owner and founder, I designed a brand new website for Skyncare, using their existing brand and imagery to create a more modernised look and feel along with a fully bespoke accompanying CMS.

The Boardroom

The Board Room NI is a local company based in Donaghadee. They specialise in live edge timber and bespoke, hand-crafted furniture, all sourced and crafted in Northern Ireland.

Owner David Rodgers approached me looking for a website to showcase available products as well as explain the business and their approach. Although The Board Room already had an existing brand, they wanted an upgrade in order to better reflect their business and bring the company’s identity up to date.

Orange Tree House

After getting married at this beautiful venue in 2019, I approached the owners myself to propose an upgrade to their simple but outdated website. I felt the site should reflect the quality of the venue and their look and feel more appropriately, and after having my initial proposals approved we worked together to create a web presence that fit the bill.

Using a colour palette based on their distinctive signature colour of laurel green, I designed a sophisticated new website that showed off the venue at its best, as well as reflecting the friendly and approachable atmosphere there. My goal was to completely revamp and modernise their site and help new visitors get an immediate impression of quality and style. Equally as important was to present the key information to any potential clients and customers in a clear and concise way. Orange Tree House are completely upfront with their pricing and availability information, and aim to make the wedding process for their couples as stress free as possible, so it was important to communicate this effectively through the new site.

The site also incorporated a completely bespoke CMS which will allow them to easily manage their content, and expanded on their unique availability feature to improve functionality and communication with potential clients.

Magy's Farm

Magy's Farm is a music venue and rehearsal space as well as talent development centre, run by husband and wife team Dr. Linley Hamilton and Maggie Doyle. Splitting their focus between live and recorded music sessions at their home music venue, as well as mentoring a group of talented young musicians, Maggie and Linley are devoted to promoting and nurturing music.

I was approached by them to create a website that would house both the Sessions they run at the farm, showcasing local musicians in an intimate venue, as well as the Collective, which was designed to bring elite talent to the next level and secure pathways into the industry for the most gifted young performers.

The website provides them with a platform to promote both the live music hosted at their home as well as the talented young musicians they mentor.

Northern Ireland Science Festival

Established in 2014, NI Science Festival has grown to become the largest celebration of its kind on the island of Ireland and in its relatively short lifespan became one of the leading Science Festivals in the whole of Europe.

With an aim to keep their online presence fresh, NISF put their existing website out to tender, and after a successful application I worked closely with the team to design them a fresh new look, with a focus on their events and a goal to expand the festival into a year-round collection of events happening all across Northern Ireland.

Combining a clean, event-focused design with quirky and colourful illustrations by designer Ryan O'Reilly, I built an entirely new website and used Craft CMS to provide an easy-to-use system for managing their events. The new website was launched successfully and will continue to be given an updated look and feel with each new festival year.
