Jerry Underhill

Jerry Underhill – Editor

25+ manuscripts edited for bestselling authors. 10 years as a history/writing teacher. Thorough , flexible, constructive.

Overview

My background is primarily in education. I taught history, English, and writing at the high school level for over 10 years. As I've always been avid reader, I decided to commit myself to mastering my craft as an editor in 2018. Since then, I have edited 25+ manuscripts for bestselling authors, focusing on helping authors build their voice and craft the stories they always dreamed of writing.

Beyond addressing typos, errors, grammatical issues, and sentence fluency/clarity/variety, my clients attest to the value I provide in my brief, constructive commentary on dialogue, storyline, and character development.

"I am very happy to have found Jerry as an editor. He is flexible and understanding that sometimes life happens and work can be delayed - this takes a lot of stress off me as an author knowing I can just message him and ask to push my appointment back. However, he always gets my edits done exactly when he's supposed to and they are always extremely thorough. He really digs into the story as he's reading (even when it's not a developmental edit) and will let me know if anything feels off or inconsistent. He gives great advice and his edits are always spot on. He's laid-back but concise, feels more like having a friend beta read than a teacher with a red pen - which is nice. I find he really wants to help make every book perfect." -Chandelle LaVaun
