Books (notably cookbooks) are my bailiwick.
If you are looking for a skilled writer, editor, copy editor (heeding CMS to a T), proofreader, or strategizer, I've got the background to back you up. I helped produce numerous best-selling titles during the 15 years I worked for Martha Stewart Omnimedia, and have continued to build on my expertise as a thriving freelancer.
Have an idea for a book? I can help craft a professional proposal and then pitch it to my extensive contacts. Already under contract? I can polish the text so your voice shines through, at every iteration. I've also developed and project-edited books for writers and publishers, taking an initial concept and giving it structure (often it's the organization that's the most difficult component to nail down, something I'm especially skilled at); writing and/or editing first drafts and final proofs; and collaborating with art directors on the layout and design.
If inspiration and integrity are what you are looking for, I've got those qualities in spades. I'm driven by deadlines and focused on the details, but also responsive, respectful, and ready to take creative risks when they promise big rewards.
When not working, you can find me hiking, kayaking, hammock-ing, biking, gardening, picnicking, bird-watching, snow-skiing, and partaking of the many cultural offerings here in the Berkshires.
I handle all aspects of writing and editing for diverse clientele, including independent authors, publishers, bloggers, websites, and more. Clients include Martha Stewart Omnimedia, Meredith, Phaidon, Storey Publishing, Scholastic, and Melcher Media.
Oversaw the development of books featuring new and repurposed content covering the core editorial subjects (notably cooking, crafts, gardening, home keeping, and weddings). Worked in conjunction with the Managing Editor to keep projects on schedule and on budget; coordinated with the Art Directors on photo shoots and creating the layout and design for each project; wrote and/or top edited all text, including display copy, recipe headnotes, and how-to information; edited manuscripts and proofread page proofs; served as liaison with the Editor at Clarkson Potter; helped create sales and marketing materials and to generate social media and publicity campaigns for new books. Also assigned projects to freelancers and wrote and/or edited feature articles for Living.
Hired to define this newly created position and to establish its role in maintaining the accuracy, style, and presentation of recipes and food content for all MSO titles, which included Living, Weddings, Baby, Kids, and special interest publications, as well as books and digital content.
