Emma Tuck

Emma Tuck – Editor

Copyeditor and proofreader. 25 years’ experience. Commercial and academic non-fiction: education, humanities, health, memoir, children, YA.

Overview

I am an editor, copyeditor and proofreader with a broad reach – from education, arts/humanities, health/well-being and memoir/biography to YA and children’s fiction. My editing approach is friendly and collaborative – offering advice and making recommendations to help an author produce the best book possible.

According to my clients, I am knowledgeable, efficient and thorough; my communication is clear and supportive; I am respectful, patient, kind and great to work with. I have an incredible catalogue of testimonials.

I have been fascinated with words since I was a child. I studied English at the University of Leeds where I gained a First Class BA honours degree. I have been freelancing since 2006 and have a long career in publishing, spanning book publishing, local and regional newspapers, and business magazines.

Emma is a joy to work with – she is thorough, patient and endlessly resourceful in helping the final text meet its purpose.

– Professor Mick Waters, author of Thinking Allowed on Schooling and About Our Schools

I have written hundreds of papers, chapters of books and books for many publishers in my long career, and I have never encountered a copyeditor as good as Emma.

– Sir Tim Brighouse, author of About Our Schools

It is my profound hope that Emma will be the only editor I will ever work with … She is skilled, respectful, knowledgeable and talented. With Emma, the editing process is delicate, subtle and a genuine learning experience. She is a delight to work with and combines being exceptionally skilled with a keen and genuinely hilarious sense of humour.

– Phil Beadle, author of The Fascist Painting

Emma is an outstanding editor. Her expertise, attention to detail, professionalism and collaborative nature make her an invaluable asset.

Emma is amazing. Thorough, specific, helpful. I needed her help with a final polish and wow. Fantastic notes, suggestions, rethinking some text. I was completely satisfied with what she offered. The real thing that allowed me to choose her was she laid out everything she would offer for the job. No one else I chose was that meticulous. I'd use her services again, definitely.

Meticulous, professional, and thorough describe the foundation for my satisfying collaboration with Emma. Her copy editing is comprehensive and adheres to stated rules, but what made her really stand out was her ability to edit and suggest within the parameters of my personal writing style. She elevated my work, rather than making it her work. Her approach was evident in her quote, but my exp...
