Emily Lunn

Emily Lunn – Editor

Ex-Penguin Random House, and a Big Five Editorial Director. 13+ years of editing and commissioning award-winning children's books.

Overview

Hello! I've 13+ years experience in-house at two of the 'Big Five' UK publishers including Penguin Random House and Hachette. Previously an Editorial Director working to make the commissioning decisions, now I can work with you to land your writing on the commissioning table. I've been lucky to learn how to edit, commission, and publish a book as successfully as possible from many different colleagues, agents, authors and illustrators.

I've also been lucky enough to work with authors such as Sir Michael Morpurgo, Michael Rosen, Tim Peake, Benji Davies, Rosie Jones and Clare Balding – as well as with some of the best-loved classics for small people: Spot the Dog, Maurice Sendak, Beatrix Potter. I've worked with amazing organisations like BBC Earth, Kew Gardens, RSPB, to bring their stories to life for children.

I'm a specialist in children's books, especially in the genres of non-fiction, picture books and preschool.

I've created books from TV scripts, shaped a story from voice notes, and pulled the story from many a manuscript. I've published books that have been prize-winning, gathered international deals, and been TCM chart-topping.

Above all I believe in children's books that are fun, fulfilling, and let their imaginations run free! Books are for everyone. I love working with authors and illustrators to find their strongest story and make it into a book that will be read again, again, again and again.

I believe in supporting writers and illustrators with honesty and care, and helping them to navigate the complexities of the publishing industry. Please tell me about your project and ask for a quote.

*Please note that I can't work on projects that have used generative AI*
