Overview

"An incredibly supportive and knowledgeable editor." - Clara Booth, author-illustrator of Lost & Found in History.

"Working with [Claire] has been wonderful, pleasant, and fruitful for me [...] I really enjoyed it." - Balthazar Pagani, author of How to be a Manga Artist

Since I could read, I knew I wanted to write. My dream took me through two Creative Writing degrees at Winchester, to working in school and public libraries, to managing the children's book section of an independent bookshop. And now it has brought me to the wonderful world of children's book editing.

I've learned from wonderful authors and editors, from Judy Waite and Judith Heneghan to Imogen Cooper (formerly of Chicken House), and been a lead copy editor for acclaimed children's writers, including Michael Foreman and Gabby Dawnay.

My motto is 'Children deserve great books. Great books deserve great ideas. Great ideas deserve great writing. Great writing deserves great editing'. You can be reassured that working with me means that I will work WITH you. I will guide you through every step of creating an engaging, marketable children's book that remains, at it's heart, solidly YOURS. From crafting the solid story foundations of strong world-building, driving plot and compelling characters to thorough line-editing and attentive copy editing, my service is personable and collaborative. As a former school librarian I champion reading for pleasure. By prioritising children's enjoyment, you create books they'll engage with, cherish and learn from.

I am available to work on picture books, chapter books and novels for young readers, and am particularly seeking long-term projects at this time. I do not work with AI or take on work developed with AI.
