Overview
I have many years experience writing and editing children's books and can help you with your fiction or non-fiction projects for children right from baby to early teens. I've worked in-house for a variety of publishers and as a freelancer for many more and have written well over 100 books including young novelty (often in rhyme), picture books, illustrated non-fiction and middle grade chapter books. I've mentored authors through the writing of their books both directly and via literary agents and run workshops on the principles of writing for children. As a qualified primary school teacher, I have a good understanding of children as readers and having worked in trade publishing, a good knowledge of the children's book market.
I can help you whatever stage your work in progress is currently in – and even help you to kickstart it if you've hit a complete block. I'm happy starting with anything from a rough idea and a completely blank page to a full manuscript and will bring my creativity, enthusiasm, extensive experience and knowledge of the publishing process and market to your project, always keeping the target reader firmly in mind (and remembering that it's your book and not mine!). I'm flexible and adaptable and will work to your schedule, reply to your emails promptly and keep to agreed deadlines to help you make your project the very best it can be.
