Dr Robert Mallett

Dr Robert Mallett – Editor

A supportive and experienced book editor who can help authors produce high quality, readable books.

Overview

As a CIEP chartered senior editor and published author I have worked extensively with a large number of experts, organizations and publishers for over twenty-five years. During my career I have been fortunate enough to have edited works by a number of major scholarly figures, from whom I leaned much both about writing elegant prose, and the process of taking a basic manuscript and seeing it successfully published. My own books in the field of academic history have focused on Italian Fascism and the question of its role in the origins of the Second World War, My edited works have examined the ideological themes that underpinned both Fascism and other forms of revolutionary ideas that have left such a dark, indelible footprint in their wake . For me this has been an enriching and rewarding experience that has greatly helped my approach to editorial work, and highlights include a commemorative volume in honour of Professor Stanley G. Payne published by Palgrave Macmillan and my own study of the Italo-Ethiopian war for Cambridge University Press.

I provide developmental, copy editing and proof reading services with the aim of producing high quality, informed and readable books. Being aware of the problems that face book authors, such as writing blocks, uncertainty about prose quality or even all round fatigue, I am able to provide encouragement combined with realistic feedback designed to get any book over the final hurdles and into publication. I am by nature easy going and a problem solver, which combined with a range of experience spanning academic history, politics and beyond will provide potential clients with a competent calm and goal focused source of support as they work to deliver their published book. I am able to work comfortably on both history and historical fiction, biography, politics and current affairs as well as philosophy in its many forms. My objective is to achieve the highest standard of quality through patience and focused hard work.

At first he was very responsive and enthusiatic. I wrote about US presidents for young people. After I paid the whole amount, the author edited pages on 11 presidents. Then he suggested that I "clean up a bit" to re-edit. I sent him revised ones on two presidents, and wrote that I was still working on the third presidents. Doing so takes so much time but I was cooperative. (I have 8 more to go)...

Dr Robert has been prompt, active, attentive and professional. I am not finished with revisions yet, but so far I am in agreement with his suggestions. They certainly seem to be raising the quality of the MS. My frustrations with Reedsy are all on the business, software and systems side, not the quality of the editors I've worked with.
