Deidre Houpt – Editor

My love of reading began at an early age with The Baby-Sitter’s Club series. Dawn was totally my favorite! I transitioned to Twilight #teamEdward and then moved on to the Sookie Stackhouse series #TeamEric. Eventually, I started reading romance and felt like I had found the perfect world in which to escape.

In 2018, I had to leave the workforce due to debilitating anxiety. I knew I wanted to start my own business so I could work from home but didn’t know where to begin. It took me a while to find my stride, but in 2020 my sister got me into doing alpha/beta reading and ARCs and that was a pivotal moment for me. I received an ARC from Quell T. Fox, and she was so happy with my suggestions that she reached out to me and asked if I’d ever considered proofreading. Quite honestly, I hadn’t, but I was thrilled at the prospect of getting to make money doing something I loved. I started proofreading professionally in early 2021 while working to further my education so I could branch out into editing.

After joining the Editorial Freelancers Association and taking courses, I started taking on editing clients and have now collaborated on over 150+ romance novels.

During my editing process, I use macros to help increase my catch-rate, and I also offer two read-throughs, with the author revisions between to help increase the overall quality of the manuscript at the end of our time together.
