D.P. Snyder

D.P. Snyder – Translator

I'm a widely-published translator & transcreator from Spanish: literary & experimental fiction, nonfiction, poetry & lyrics my strong suits.

Overview

I am a literary translator, transcreator, and exophonic writer, passionate about literary fiction, lyrics/poetry, and experimental literary forms. I hold a B.A. in Literature from Yale University and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the University of the South, and am an adjunct professor of literary translation at New York University.

My previous experience at traditional publishers Time Inc., Holt, Rinehart & Winston, Scholastic, and Berlitz International prepared me to be an organized, responsive, team-oriented, and deadline-conscious editorial partner. Widely read in philosophy, art, music, and literature, I bring experience and context to translating academic essays in the humanities. I offer a deep knowledge of pan-Hispanic contemporary literature and its cultural contexts, specializing in Mexico, Spain, Colombia, and the Caribbean.

I serve as an expert reader and assessor of Hispanic literature for publishers and book reviewer for Review: Literature and Arts of the Americas (CUNY), Reading in Translation (Oberlin), and Luvina magazine (University of Guadalajara). I've won two translation fellowships (The Hermitage and The Ezra Foundation). I have been an invited speaker on the art of translation at The Manizales Bookfair (Colombia 2022), FILUni (Mexico City 2023), the NewEngland Translation Association, and the Hablemos Escritoras podcast (The University of Texas/Houston 2021), and the Madrid Book fair, among others.

In short, I'm a cheery, communicative, deadline-conscious creative, eager to discuss your project!
