For the last 15 years I have been working as a freelance editor and project manager for publishers such as LexisNexis UK, Bloomsbury Professional, Hart Publishing and Globe Law and Business on a range of law and tax titles. As a freelancer, I am very self-motivated and organised. I am used to working to extremely tight deadlines and coordinating all elements of the production of a publication, taking a project from manuscript stage to the production of a final PDF, whilst liaising with authors and other freelancers such as tablers and indexers. When copy editing I pride myself on paying close attention to detail, not only with regard to spelling, language and grammar but also to the house style of each publisher.
Experienced editor, solely responsible for copy editing and proof reading a wide range of titles including books, looseleafs and newsletters. Project management, including chasing authors for manuscript and corrections, employing freelancers (indexers and tablers), liaising with typesetters, approving schedules and seeing a title through from delivery of manuscript to final PDF. Managerial responsibility for coordinating the work of a team of editors. Supervisory skills, including recruiting and training new team members, allocating workloads and yearly appraisals. Motivating staff to perform to the best of their abilities to ensure good team communication and performance. Ability to work well under pressure, often within tight production schedules.
