Editor formerly at Disney•Hyperion with 5+ years of experience acquiring and editing children's and YA fiction.

Overview

I'm an editor with 5+ years of experience acquiring and editing picture books, middle grade, and YA, with experience at Disney•Hyperion and Scholastic. My books have received numerous accolades, including starred reviews, best-of lists, and state and national awards. Prior to working in publishing, I graduated from Brown University with a degree in political science and religious studies.

A quick look at some of my titles and their accolades:

- THE UNDEAD TRUTH OF US by Britney S. Lewis: A Kansas Notable Book of 2023

- THE DARK PLACE by Britney S. Lewis: Recommended by Kansas National Education Association's Reading Circle Commission

- WE DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THIS by Brianna Craft: NetGalley's 25 Must-Read Books by Black Authors (2024)

My goal is to help the book your reader experiences match the book you (the author) envision. As an editor, I take a character-first approach. Why should readers care about your story? The answer is often because of the characters at its heart.

I care a lot about accessibility, diversity, and inclusion, and therefore I tailor my feedback to the needs of my authors. We can work together to determine what format for giving/receiving feedback works best for you.

If you want to pay an editor to pat you on the head and give you a couple of quick edits to reassure you of your genius, there are plenty on this site who will do just that. If you're looking for someone who will bring their expertise to bear on your manuscript and put in the work in hopes you ca...

For any writer serious about taking their MS to the next level, Christine's edit is a must. I found her approach to be deeply collaborative and insightful, and this encouraged me to make some decisive choices where plot was concerned. Her experience as a Disney Hyperion editor meant she had intim...

Christine did an excellent job reviewing my work. She was fair, encouraging, and gave detailed feedback both about the things I asked her to look out for and the things I didn't know were problems. I'd highly recommend her to anyone looking for feedback on a MG manuscript (which is what mine was.)

Assuming a book deal, how long can an author assume the process will take from querying to seeing their book on the shelf?

Querying is the first step of a journey through traditional publishing. After you've sent out your queries, the next steps might look something like this: Full requests: Literary agents who are interested in your query will request the full manuscript from you so they can read the whole book and...

How do you handle feedback from authors who may be resistant to revisions or suggestions?

As a developmental editor, the best I can do is tell the author how their manuscript made me feel and try to help them bring it closer to their vision. I always remind the authors I work with that my notes are suggestions, not orders. It isn't up to me to decide how their book "should" play out—i...
