Overview
For more than 10 years, I have worked as an editor, researcher, and writer, in large part for academic, journalistic, literary, international, legal, political, financial, technical, scientific, and governmental organizations. Direct and indirect clients have included the (U.S.) National Academy of Sciences, Cardozo Law, George Mason University, the Johns Hopkins University, the University of Chicago, the U.S. Department of Education (ED), Watching America, the Washington Independent Review of Books, the UN, the World Bank, the Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI), NASA, the U.S. Department of Commerce's National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), DoD, the Smithsonian Institution, and other governmental organizations (e.g., GSA and IRS). In addition to the editing of hundreds of articles for 30 technical and scientific academic peer-reviewed journals, the read-behind (supervisory) editing of the most difficult articles of 18 of those 30 journals, and the editorial management of 1 of the 30 journals--work has included the writing and editing of many communication materials, including at least 18 books.
Currently, I am freelancing as an editor, writer, and podcaster. I am researching, writing, producing, and publishing podcasts as essays, narratives, poems, and op-eds on my own site regarding science, news, politics, and philosophy: Several of the scientific, philosophic, and poetic podcasts use stories, and all of the podcasts are literary.
Also, from ExpertRating Solutions, I earned a certificate in mystery writing. In doing so, I studied story types; story structure; the distinction between story and plot; scene; action; its propulsion; the climax; and catharsis. Also, I have written poetry and am currently writing two fictional works: one novel and one screenplay. Some of my fiction has been poetic (e.g., “The Adventures of Orange Man: Dialogue 1: Cake and the Fat Man”).
In summary, my education and editorial work have ranged throughout the major fields of inquiry: the soft and hard sciences and the humanities, including literature. My editorial functions have ranged from proofreading to copyediting, substantive editing, and management.
Throughout my work, I have conveyed the message of the author to as wide an audience as appropriate, by using plain English; minimizing ambiguity; and maximizing accuracy, concision, and readability. I convey complex matters clearly.
