Writing my first book with Carla was one of the best things that happened to me. Her attention to detail was second to none. I came to know her deep faith which I believe is the secret of her compassion, patience and love for people and her work. John Oche Omale, Senior Pastor, CMA Church, Alberta, Canada.
Mentored by some of the UK's best journalists, I was privileged to work for BBC News for eight years, writing for adults, as well as for children (Newsround). It was here that I learned to edit copy accurately, impartially and considerately, and have used this foundation to help shape several books for publication.
In addition, it is through working as an ESOL tutor, interacting with adults from different countries, as well as teaching children, that I have developed a depth of sensitivity to communication. In support of this, the translator with whom I work closely to edit the government-bound proposals commented that I intuitively know what she means to convey, even without access to the original German text.
Regarding the process:
I prefer to make alterations in sections, meticulously reading the text twice and returning each section to the author for their input before a final (third), overall reading. Where possible, I prefer to use Microsoft Word's tracking tool.
Worked on several Christian books for Africa and the UK. Copy edited English-language academic papers for the German Church, Evangelische Kirche in Deutschland (EKD), on topics including sustainability, ecology, finance and psychology. Also edited Theology PhDs. (Please see the book/document covers in the gallery for more information.)
Involving overseas visits to remote parts of Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe to deliver the training published in the manuals that I copy-edited (please see the book/document covers in the gallery for more information). Also offering humanitarian aid including building schools, medical centres and micro businesses.
Wrote and edited for BBC News and also Newsround (for primary-aged children).
