Scottish Artist and Illustrator. Studied Visual Communications at NCAD Dublin, graduated 2005. Creative freelance with flair and good cheer.

Overview

I have been a freelance illustrator for past 17 years. I grew up on a farm so have a great respect and love for the outdoors. I studied in Dublin and then took part in an exchange programme to Finland in 2004. I have shown my work in joint and solo exhibitions throughout the UK.I have also enjoyed supplying gift shops and galleries with my prints and books. I am a proud member of the Scottish Book Trust's Author Directory, a platform where Schools and Libraries can find me for talks & workshops. Being an illustrator means listening closely to my clients needs and finding the most memorable visual solution. I love pencil, pen and mixed media...but mostly I love seeing a job successfully completed. I am reliable, inventive and very dedicated.

Work experience

Self-employed

Aug, 2005 — Present

I am a farmers daughter and live on a beautiful island off the north of Scotland. This has shaped much of my work. I have worked for the private and commercial sector. Clients include NHS, The Scottish Parliament, Hachette and Acair. Published titles include 'Made up Muck?' written and illustrated by myself, 'A small Town Affair' and 'The Trouble with Keeping Mum' by Rosie Wallace plus Jim Hewiston's latest 'Our Crazy World'. My first self published children's book was titled 'Janice Wants to be Heard' followed by 'Janice and the Special Breakfast'. I illustrate a bi-monthly safety article for Orkney Farmer Magazine. I have just completed a children's book for German author Paul Boothroyd; 'George and the Golden Letterseed'. My new children's book is titled 'O is for Orkney' and is out now in hardback. I am a member of the Association of Illustrators. I love my work and hope you do too. Thank you for your interest.

BBC Radio Orkney

Jun, 2001 — Sep, 2005 (over 4 years)

Worked as part of a small enthusiastic team within local radio station whilst completing my degree. The daily deadlines of typing scripts and working with the general public made this a hectic, yet enjoyable workplace.

Even as a writer, words fail me when it comes to praising the level of professional care and attention, insight and creativity Britt has brought to what started out as "my story" and ultimately became "our book". Her illustrations brought the tale to life, imbued as they are with keen perceptiveness and a delightful dose of visual humour. She is a real pleasure to work with, personable, friend...
