Overview

I have been a freelance illustrator for past 11 years. I am a working mother and I grew up on a farm so have a great respect and love for the outdoors. I took part in an exchange programme to Lahti Polytechnic, Finland in 2004. I have shown my work in joint and solo exhibitions throughout the UK.I have also enjoyed supplying gift shops and galleries with my prints and books. Being an illustrator means listening closely to my clients needs and finding the most exciting visual solution. I love pencil, watercolour, acrylic and seeing a job completed.

Work experience

Self employed illustrator

Self-employed
August, 2005 – Present (about 12 years)

I am a farmers daughter and live on a beautiful island off the north of Scotland. This has shaped much of my work. I have worked for private and commercial sector. Clients include NHS, The Scottish Parliament, Hachette and Storlann. Published titles include 'Made up Muck?' written & illustrated by myself, 'A small Town Affair' and 'The Trouble with Keeping Mum' both by Rosie Wallace plus Jim Hewiston's latest 'Our Crazy World'. My first self published children's book was titled 'Janice Wants to be Heard'. The latest is called 'Janice and the Special Breakfast'. I illustrate a bi-monthly safety article for Orkney Farmer Magazine.

Assistant, local radio station.

BBC Radio Orkney
June, 2001 – September, 2005 (over 4 years)

Worked as part of a small enthusiastic team within local radio station whilst completing my degree. The daily deadlines of typing scripts and working with the general public made this a hectic, yet enjoyable workplace.
