Britny Perilli

Britny Perilli – Editor

Britny (she/they) is a YA fiction and pop culture non-fiction editor with over 5 years of traditional publishing experience.

Overview

My name is Britny (she/they) and I'm a nerd that loves to work on and publish books that explore and celebrate fandom, nerdy culture, and the amazing communities that make them up. I specializes in YA fiction, as well as adult and children's non-fiction. While I'm is thrilled to work with all writers, I think it is really important for me to help to support Black, AAPI, Latine, LGBTQA+, disabled, and other marginalized voices. I love anime, manga, video games, tabletop RPGs, and graphic novels.

I'm a collaborative, supportive editor. My job is to help you write the book that you want to write, to encourage you, and maybe help you out of a tight spot every now and again! Before we get started, I will probably set up an intro call or kick-off email so we can get to know one another quickly and I can better understand any problem areas, specific needs, or expectations from our time together, as well as how best you process edits and feedback. I'm happy to accommodate and work with you to get the job done! When editing and reviewing a manuscript, I like to think of myself as not just an editor, but a reader. What are things that are working well or places where things get confusing? I do mark obvious grammatical errors or mistakes, but I'm not a copyeditor--my job is to help you develop the story, strengthen your voice, and make sure things are reading beautifully as a whole and on the sentence level. If asked, I do provide comments with ideas on how to rewrite or rephrase something to inspire you and better communicate what I think would sound/work better, but that is only when asked!

I truly enjoyed working with Britny, she was responsive and an effective communicator for complex topics. She was able to walk me through some of the issues that I had not seen with my writing and how to effectively work through those issues. Britny is a kind and compassionate person who made me feel welcome enough to ask her every question that popped into my head and was able to answer each i...

Britny helped me realize that readers would perceive two characters interactions very differently then I wanted.
