Britny Perilli

Britny Perilli – Editor

Britny (she/they) is a developmental editor with over 8 years of traditional publishing experience in fiction and non-fiction.

Overview

My name is Britny (she/they) and I'm a nerd that loves to work on and publish books that explore and celebrate fandom, nerdy culture, and the amazing communities that make them up. I specialize in fantasy, science fiction, and speculative fiction, as well as narrative non-fiction.

As a developmental editor, my job is to help you write the book that you want to write. Don't know where to start your book? I'm here! Need someone to cheer you on and be the one to hold you accountable to meeting your writing goals? I can help! I'm here to coach, encourage, and help you out of a tough spot whenever you need it.

The two most important things to me when working with an author are: communication and collaboration. I like to learn about the authors I work with so I can help them, not only with their current project, but with specific questions or problems that they might be having with writer's block or other just writing a book as a whole. I will always ask if there are problem areas, specific needs, or expectations that you are looking to address, as well as how best you process edits and feedback, so that I can make sure that I'm supporting you in a way that is going to help you continue to write and meet your goals. When editing and reviewing a manuscript, I like to think of myself as not just an editor, but a reader. What are things that are working well or places where things get confusing? I do mark obvious grammatical errors or mistakes, but I'm not a copyeditor--my job is to help you develop the story, strengthen your voice, and make sure things are reading beautifully as a whole and on the sentence level. If asked, I do provide comments with ideas on how to rewrite or rephrase something to inspire you and better communicate what I think would sound or work better, but that is only when asked.

I look forward to meeting you and reading your book!
